What Is The Custom Bag and Backpack Production Process?

Many customers are curious about our complete custom bag and backpack production process when communicating with Kewei. To help you better understand our manufacturing techniques and procedures, Kewei will share some details today.

Designing Based on Customer Needs

Communication is the first step in establishing a good business relationship. During this process, Kewei will first understand the customer’s needs, including their brand positioning, target audience, desired backpack type, material, size, color, structure, ODM/OEM customization requirements, and budget.

After understanding the customer’s needs, we analyze popular bag and backpack styles and competing products to determine the overall design and structure. Our design team will then create a draft or CAD drawing of the finished backpack.

We will send the finished drawings to our customers as soon as possible and make adjustments and modifications based on their needs to ensure they meet their customization requirements.

Prototype Production

Once the design drawings are finalized, we will create paper grids based on the custom bag and backpack’s design. This means cutting out the outlines of the different bag and backpack structures from cardboard. These are then placed under or between the fabric sheets. The grids are then assembled according to the design, striving to reproduce the original design. This process also requires multiple communications with our clients, and adjustments are made based on their needs to ensure the backpack’s size, structure, and functionality meet their desired requirements.

Material Selection and Procurement

Once the sample is confirmed and the client places an order, we begin material preparation, which generally includes the selection and quality inspection of fabric and accessories.

Fabric Procurement

Fabric procurement includes nylon, polyester, canvas, leather, PVC waterproof fabric, etc.

Accessory Procurement

Accessory procurement includes zippers, buckles, webbing, labels, etc.

During this process, Kewei typically selects suppliers with long-term relationships and a proven track record of quality. If new materials are needed, Kewei will also compare multiple suppliers to ensure the selected materials are of high quality and reasonably priced.

Production

Production is the most critical and complex step in the entire manufacturing process, encompassing the following specific processes:

Material Cutting

Paper grids for different custom bag and backpack structures are placed on the corresponding fabric and cut into precise shapes using a cutting machine.

In addition to preparing the fabric, during this stage, we also assign workers to prepare auxiliary materials such as buckles and zippers, sort them, and label them to ensure the smooth and orderly progress of the entire process.

Printing or Embroidery

Based on the customer’s customized needs, we will print or embroider the desired pattern on the custom bag and backpack.

Preliminary Sewing

Once all materials are prepared, we will assign skilled workers to perform the preliminary sewing. Generally, one worker is responsible for sewing only one part of the custom bag and backpack, such as a pocket or a compartment. This effectively improves process precision and production efficiency, while also ensuring quality.

Riveting

Riveting the connection points of the custom bag and backpack, such as the shoulder straps, handles, zipper pulls, or base, or riveting hardware such as metal buckles and D-rings.

Quilting

Quilting specific areas, such as the back panel, shoulder straps, and waist belt of a hiking pack, or the inner compartment of a camera bag, is performed.

Stitching

After quilting is completed, final sewing and reinforcement are performed to enhance the overall seal and stability of the custom bag and backpack.

Quality Inspection

Kewei understands the importance of custom bag and backpack quality inspection, so we have multiple quality inspection steps. We first visually inspect each custom bag and backpack for symmetry and loose threads. Unqualified bags will be collectively reworked to ensure quality.

In addition to visual inspection, Kewei also conducts functional tests, such as abrasion resistance, strap tension testing, zipper smoothness testing, and water resistance testing for specific bags.

Packaging

Qualified products are packaged collectively. Airbags or soft paper are typically filled inside to maintain the custom bag and backpack’s shape. Bags are then sealed and sealed to prevent contamination during transportation.

Warehouse and Shipment

Sealed goods are collectively warehoused and shipped after confirming the shipping time with the customer. For urgent orders, you can choose air freight; those with more time budgets can choose sea freight.

As an experienced Chinese manufacturer of custom bags and backpacks, Kewei offers a wide variety of custom backpacks, including lunch bags, waist bags, hiking bags, travel bags, military bags and so on. We have a complete and efficient production process and support both ODM and OEM customization.
